On December 28th,
2018, a group of about 50 activists paid a solidarity visit to Esmail Abdi’s
family, a labour activist and the secretary of Iranian Teachers’ Association.
They did this because Esmail is behind the bars for being a labour activist and
for demanding his and his fellow teachers’ right and has dared enough to be
their spokesperson. December 28th is the 3rd anniversary
of Esmail’s arrest. Esmail is no stranger to Islamic regime of Iran ’s
so called justice system. Prior to his last incarceration, he faced numerous
harassments in the hands of interrogators. He was arrested and each time
released on hefty bail.
During this visit, the activists
also discussed actions to further pursue their demands. The labour movement in Iran is gaining
momentum. The part we could play is to support its activists and to spread
their cause, as well as to expose the brutality they face in the hands of
Islamic regime of Iran ’s
authorities and its so called justice system. The more people become aware of
their cause and their situation, the stronger the movement becomes.
The supportive letters (protest
letters) should be addressed to Islamic Republic of Iran’s spiritual leader; Sayyid
Ali Hosseini Khamenei: contact@leader.ir, CCed to the
current president Hassan Rouhani: media@rouhani.ir;
as well as to the ILO (International Labour Organization): ilo@ilo.org.
